Memorandum

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been agreed between the Drinking Water Quality Regulator for Scotland (DWQR), the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Scottish Water (SW). The Memorandum sets out an agreed framework for co-operation between the three parties. It is not legally binding nor is it intended to cover every detailed aspect of our relationships. Rather, it is a statement of principles, which will guide relations between the three parties and provide a set of workable ground rules. The MoU recognises the links between the requirement for SW to draw up Water Safety Plans to mitigate risks to drinking water quality and that of SEPA to consider the need to protect drinking water areas through the River Basin Management Planning system. The MoU recognises the need for all of us to work together with the common aim of protecting drinking water.
