DWQR Welcomes WICS determination on Water Pricing

On 26 November, DWQR attended the launch of the Water Industry Commission for Scotland's (WICS) final determination of its strategic review of charges for 2010 - 2015. This sets the charges that Scottish Water (SW) can recover from its customers on the basis of the lowest reasonable cost of discharging its obligations to its customers and to the environment. DWQR has worked closely with SW and the WICS to agree an investment programme for the next five year period to improve the quality of public water supplies in Scotland. DWQR welcomes this final determination which should see, for example, the introduction of appropriate treatment at a number of priority sites where Cryptosporidium is an issue. It should also see further progress made in how water looks and tastes to consumers, with improvements being made in the control of disinfection using chlorine at a number of treatment works and investment in the refurbishment of distribution systems in priority locations around Scotland to reduce the number of discolouration incidents that some consumers in these areas experience from time to time.
