  • Scottish Water maintains quality through freeze

    Despite the freezing weather, Scottish Water has worked hard to ensure that the required water samples are taken at treatment works, service reservoirs and consumers' taps and that these arrive safely back at their accredited laboratory where they are analysed. Although it has not been possible to collect a small number of samples, DWQR is satisfied that quality standards have been maintained throughout the cold weather.

    DWQR has issued an enforcement notice against Scottish Water for Penwhirn water supply zone, which covers much of Galloway around Stranraer and Newton Stewart due to failures of the iron and trihalomethane (THM) standards.

  • Boil Water Notice in Tomintoul Lifted

    Following advice from NHS Grampian Health Board, Scottish Water issued a notice to residents of Tomintoul that they should boil their water after the Cryptosporidium protozoa was detected in the supply on 21 July 2009. Following clear samples, the boil notice was lifted on 26 July and the water is safe to drink and use normally.

  • Boil Water Notice in Aboyne, 8 Sept. 2009

    Scottish Water has asked residents of Aboyne in Aberdeenshire to boil all drinking water prior to consumption after the detection of Cryptosporidium in the supply.

  • Aboyne Boil Water Notice Lifted

    On 22 September Scottish Water removed advice for residents of Aboyne to boil all water before consuming it. The supply is now clear of Cryptosporidium, and tap water in Aboyne is safe to drink once again.

  • Water Quality Incident at Tomintoul, Moray on 21 October

    Residents of the Morayshire village of Tomintoul were advised not to use their tap water for drinking or any purpose other than flushing toilets after a problem with the process used to regulate the pH of the water at Blairnamarrow treatment works. The advice notice was lifted on 22 October and the water is safe to use again in the normal way.
