DWQR Issues Loch Eck Enforcement Notice

DWQR has issued a second enforcement notice in respect of manganese at Loch Eck water treatment works, the supply that serves Dunoon and much of Cowal. This enforcement notice follows on from an earlier notice requiring design of a maganese removal process at the treatment works and will ensure construction is completed by March 2012, with any remaining cleansing of the distribution system to be completed by the end of that year.

Cleansing work already undertaken by Scottish Water under the terms of the original enforcement notice should ensure residents of the Dunoon area are seeing an improvement in the appearance of their drinking water. This second enforcement notice will provide a permanent solution to the issue and ensure further deposits of manganese do not accumulate in the area's water mains. Manganese does not present a risk to health, but causes water supplies to become discoloured.
