Volcanic Ash Cloud - No Impact on Drinking Water
Following the volcanic eruption in Iceland, SEPA and Scottish Water are closely monitoring environmental waters and drinking water supplies for any impact on quality. Although very slight increases in the concentration of certain substances associated with volcanic ash have been detected by SEPA in Scottish rainwater, these present no cause for concern.
The dilution factor is very large within most of the water sources used by Scottish Water to supply drinking water. It is highly unlikely that the eruption will have any effect on the quality of drinking water that is supplied to consumers. As always, Scottish Water is closely monitoring the quality of its water supplies.
