Type B Supplies

Type B supplies are either:

  • domestic supplies providing less than 10m3 of water per day, or
  • supply less than 50 people.
  • These are not required to have risk assessments carried out, but the local authority must provide advice on request. A simple risk assessment can be obtained from:

The local authority environmental health service can help complete the assessment or carry out an assessment, however, there may be a charge for this. Water quality analysis costs will depend on the analysis carried out. Contact the relevant local authority for further information.

Local authorities have a duty to take action if the quality of water from a private supply to any premises in their area poses an immediate risk to health.
