Serological markers for Cryptosporidium exposure and variation over time associated with changes in the water treatment process
This ongoing project by Health Protection Scotland is looking at potential changes in immunological markers for Cryptosporidium in a group of blood donors in the Glasgow area following the improved filtration processes associated with the commissioning of the new Milngavie treatment works. A selected group of blood donors in the Dundee area, where there has been no change in treatment process, is acting as a control.
Cryptosporidium speciation protocol for use in Water Laboratories
This is a collaborative project administered by the Water Research Foundation in the USA. It aims to develop and document an analytical method for distinguishing between Cryptosporidium species found in water samples. It is intended that this method should be simple, yet robust and easily adapted for use within a typical water laboratory that currently analyses water samples for Cryptosporidium oocysts.
